Region Preview: GHSA 5A - Region 8
The North Georgia region for 5A this year has a lot of really intriguing upperclassmen. While there is no underclassmen of note this year, there is some really highly ranked players of note in the 2025 and 2026 classes in this region alone. With a few teams that are ranked in the top ten, and another team that has one of the best scorers in the senior class, there’s no telling how this one could go down come state tournament time. The North Atlanta suburb region of 5A this year is packed and stacked with high level talent this year. With a few storied programs in the state of Georgia in the region, only one can be crowned region champion this year. The North suburb region of 5A this year is dripping with talent. Five of the eight teams in the region this year have a player either committed or offered by a division one program. With each team having great talent, anyone could literally win or lose any given night in the region. The West Suburban Atlanta region in 5A this year is going to be a really close race to the finish to see who grabs those top four spots and a trip to the state tournament. With a middle that is entirely wide open, there’s a lot of great guards and wings this year that could create some incredible story lines along the way. The Suburban Atlanta region in 5A this year has a couple of heavyweight contenders in it littered with division one talent. But the chase for any one of those remaining four spots is wide open in a region that has a lot of parity in it and great coaching. In a region where the middle is as mucky as it could get, there is going to be an exciting year of games in 5A Region 3 this year where any team could get hot at the right time and make one of those top four spots and get into the state tournament. The Southeast region for 5A this year is jam packed with tremendous athletes and some really good young talent. Thoughts & Observations From The 2024 Columbia Boys Basketball Showcase
Yesterday was the Columbia Boys Basketball Showcase at Columbia High School in Dekalb County, Georgia. Columbia hosted six games yesterday featuring eight teams ranked in their respective state. There was no shortage of talent or excitement as two of the six games went to overtime, and five of the six were decided by four possessions or less. Youngsters and veterans showed up and showed out at this legendary home of several state championships. Read below to see a review of each game and the all-showcase team.

The suburban Atlanta region in 6A to the northeast is going to be one of the more exciting chases to watch this year in 6A. Every team has at least one guy who is going to be a college player somewhere next year and is full of great coaching along with it. With no clear front runner, every game will count this year and should make for some fantastic finishes in the region as they chase for one of those highly coveted four spots in the state tournament. The suburban Atlanta region in 6A has a perennial powerhouse that has restocked the team this year with tremendous amounts of talent. But other programs within the region have some talent as well and will look to challenge the Blue Devils for the region championship. The North region this year in 6A has some fresh faces this year. While it is primarily Forsyth County schools, there are some other players in the game who are fielding strong teams such as Lambert and North Atlanta. There is a lot of parity in the region this year which should make for an exciting finish for one of those highly coveted top four spots to get into the state tournament. The Northwest region for 6A this year is filled with traditional power houses once again in Wheeler and Walton, but there are some challengers who have something to say this year in Etowah and Cherokee. There is no shortage of talent in this region this year and should make for an exciting race to see who comes out on top come playoff time. Region Preview: GHSA 6A - Region 4
The toughest region in the entire state of Georgia is dripping with talent from top to bottom this year as 6A - Region 4 is this year’s “Gauntlet.” Featuring the likes of nationally ranked Grayson and state power houses Newton and South Gwinnett, there are some other players in the game who have their say as well. Archer, Grovetown, Rockdale, and Heritage all boast competitive teams that can go off any given night. Only four of these teams however can make it to the coveted state basketball tournament. The northwest Atlanta region this year has eight teams in it that are all capable of beating anyone any given night. With no superior talent per say, there is a significant amount of talent overall that is going to make for an extremely interesting race to pay attention to as there are a lot of competitive teams, but only four will make it in to the state tournament. Thoughts & Observations from the 2024 FeastGiving Showcase
Yesterday was the North Georgia Report/ Baseline to Sideline FeastGiving hosted at Buford High School in Buford, Georgia. There were seven boys games that were primarily teams from northern Georgia. Between the four teams there was plenty of scholarship level talent in the building with seven great matchups that all but one came down to the wire fielding some great matchups. There were even two division one scholarships awarded in the building Saturday night. Read the report to see the game recaps, all showcase team, and more.

The lone region in West Georgia for 6A this year holds only five teams, but there is no shortage of talent to go around. There are some really talented seniors in the region that should make it a very interesting and very competitive race to see who wins the championship in the region come playoff time. There are some really talented seniors across the region, as well as some notable young talent that will have impacts on the outcome this year. There are six teams this year in the redeveloped region as Tift County joins the region. Read below for more breakdown and predictions for the region this year.
Thoughts & Observations from the Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic
This past Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday was the well known annual Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic held at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanne, Georgia. Over the course of the three days there were 14 games featuring 22 different boys teams and also included one of the top programs from Alabama. There was no shortage of talent and star power as there were some familiar names and faces that shined, but plenty of new ones as well who are worthy of mentioning. Please see my notes below from each game and a recap of the all-tournament team below.
